Working with MSPs
Senior project and architecture capacity, under your direction and your client relationship.
This page is for MSP owners. The rest of this site is written for business owners who want an independent look at their environment. That work is sold to them directly, by me, under my name. It is not what I am offering you here, and the two do not mix.
What I offer an MSP is senior technical capacity for the work that does not fit the day-to-day. I spent the last few years as technical director of an MSP and the twenty before that in enterprise infrastructure, so I know what a project looks like from your side of the desk: the migration nobody has time to plan properly, the tenant that needs a proper identity design rather than another exception, the client asking for an architecture opinion your team is too busy to write.
What I take on
Project work with a defined start, a written scope and an end. Active Directory to Entra migrations and the readiness work that should precede them. Microsoft 365 and Entra ID design, Conditional Access and identity clean-up. Windows Server and virtualisation projects. Network and DNS work. Architecture and documentation for a client who has outgrown what was set up for them. Technical due diligence when you take on a new client and want to know what you are inheriting before you sign.
I do not take on helpdesk, reactive support or on-call. Your team keeps the operational relationship and the phone.
How the relationship works
You remain the prime contractor and the client relationship is yours. I work under your direction and your NDA, on your engagement, and I report to you. Deliverables come to you, under your brand if you prefer, and you decide what the client sees and when.
I do not establish a separate commercial relationship with your clients, and I do not offer them the independent reviews sold elsewhere on this site. Anything I notice during a project that sits outside its scope comes to you, in writing, and stays with you. What you do with it is your call.
The work is one-off and self-contained by design. There is no retainer and no ongoing commitment: the engagement ends when the scope is delivered, and your client's systems stay under your control throughout.
What it costs
Project work is fixed-price against a written scope, agreed before anything starts. Shorter pieces and open-ended advisory time are charged at a day rate. The rate card has both, with the scoping method and what is included, and I will send it on request.
What this is not
Not a white-label review service. Not a subcontractor who will be introduced to your clients as an independent voice. Not a second MSP waiting for the account. If you want an independent review for one of your clients, that is a conversation the client has with me directly, on the terms elsewhere on this site, and you would know about it before it started.
How to start
Email rob@robswain.au or send a message on LinkedIn, and I will send the rate card. If there is a piece of work in front of you, describe it in a paragraph and I will tell you whether it is a fit and what the scope would look like.
